The U0472 is impassable by The Chapel (Old Chapel Road) following a landslip several years ago. The road is breaking up and needs urgent repair which requires considerable expenditure.
Powys County Council has produced a list of options:
Option 1: Cease ownership of the U0472 and hand over to the Old Chapel. This option requires agreement from the Old Chapel and local residents. This would not be the preferred option, as it would have to be passed in magistrates’ court with no objections.
Option 2: Implement a permanent road closure for vehicles and change the U0472 to a footpath to access the Old Chapel. This option requires remedial works to the road, fencing along the path and parking provisions for the Old Chapel.
Option 3: Repair the U0472 from the northwest direction to the Old Chapel (approximately 200 metres). This option involves the construction of two retaining structures (approximately 20m in length and 3m in height), as well as highway drainage and surfacing.
Option 4: Repair the U0472 from the southeast direction to the Old Chapel (approximately 500 metres). This option involves the construction of one retaining structure (approximately 10m in length and 4m in height), renewal of gabion baskets or alternative scour protection, extensive highway drainage, surfacing, and widening of the carriageway (unless access is provided solely for cars and not buses).
Option 5: Repair the full length of the U0472. Combine Option 3 and Option 4.
Residents are invited to put further options forward for consideration.
