Powys County Council is currently undertaking a consultation exercise into the operation of the library service. The following options (briefly outlined below) are currently being considered:

Option A

  • Reduce all area and branch library opening hours by 20%
  • Maintain branch libraries in current locations, seeking opportunities to co-locate the libraries with other council or community facilities in the area
  • Maintain the Mobile Library Service, including all existing routes and stops, but replace the 2 weekly service with a 4 weekly service

Option B

  • Closure of up to 11 branch libraries
  • Increase the Mobile Library Service to include provision of one or two half-day per week stops at locations where branch libraries are closed
  • Introduction of a dedicated ‘Housebound’ service for residents who are unable to travel to a branch or mobile library

Option C

  • Closure of up to 5 branch libraries
  • Discontinue the Mobile Library Service
  • Introduction of a dedicated ‘Housebound’ service for residents who are unable to travel
