Powys County Council is currently undertaking a consultation exercise into the operation of the library service. The following options (briefly outlined below) are currently being considered:
Option A
- Reduce all area and branch library opening hours by 20%
- Maintain branch libraries in current locations, seeking opportunities to co-locate the libraries with other council or community facilities in the area
- Maintain the Mobile Library Service, including all existing routes and stops, but replace the 2 weekly service with a 4 weekly service
Option B
- Closure of up to 11 branch libraries
- Increase the Mobile Library Service to include provision of one or two half-day per week stops at locations where branch libraries are closed
- Introduction of a dedicated ‘Housebound’ service for residents who are unable to travel to a branch or mobile library
Option C
- Closure of up to 5 branch libraries
- Discontinue the Mobile Library Service
- Introduction of a dedicated ‘Housebound’ service for residents who are unable to travel
